On the last night of our Borneo, Malaysia, trip we spent it at a tropical hotel to rest our weary bones. The edge was right on the sands edge and this was the view out our window! Just before dinner I went down on to the beach with my camera to capture the gorgeous sunset. Boats were bobbing on the water’s surface as palm trees swayed in the wind. It was paradise! After this I went and had a tasty fried fish and tiger beer, yum!
Making this HDR:
You need to make sure you shoot your bracketed images on a tripod or hold your camera very still. Find your EV setting on your camera and shoot a bracket of images, usually 5 images is best, e.g. -2EV, -1EV, 0, +1EV and +2EV. On this occasion I just used -1, 0 and +1 as I was happy that this covered my shadows and highlights well. You can see the 3 frames I shot below.
Next load your 3 images into your HDR software. I use Photomatix PRO 5 .
Photomatix PRO 5– Is a MAC and PC HDR software for creating stunning HDR images. They have a trial, but if you end up buying a copy of Photomatix 5 you can get a 15% Discount with the coupon code LukeZemePhotography
I used – On1 Photo Raw to stylise this image. The stylisation program in the suite is called On1 Perfect Effects which you can buy as a standalone program. That means you can launch just from your desktop and you dont need photoshop, Lightroom or aperture even though you can use it with them too.
– Topaz DeNoise 5 to reduce the noise in it so that it can be printed large. Get 15% off all Topaz software use discount code LukeZemePhotography
