This is taken from one of the most popular photo locations in Sydney “Mrs Macquaries Chair“. No matter what time of the day you visit this spot you will find tourists enjoying the view and wedding couples having their photos taken here. But there is so much space on the lawn and path that the motto is “the more the merrier”.
I like coming here because you’ve got to walk through the Sydney Botanical gardens and there is no better spot in the city to watch the sun go down. On this occassion it was a mild Autumn evening and it was incredibly peaceful on the water. I think that sense of stillness comes out in this image and it just feels like “Sydney in Autumn” to me. The warmth another day sets on the horizon as Sydney’s exciting night life takes over.
It’s a joy shooting with the Nikkor 14-24mm paired with a sony A7R on a tripod. Id shot this location with my D800 before but I think I could enjoy shooting here every day! I took a bracket of 5 images from -2 to +2 so that I could use them using Luminance masks.
To those wanting to know how I developed this. I used Luminance masking techniques and there probably the guru for HDR Luminance masks is Jimmy Mcintyre. Check out his Video tutorials here, which are really affordable!
I then edited the image using On1 Perfect Effects to stylise the images contrast, colour, glow etc. all with masks within the software.
– On1 Perfect Effects – An amazing Filter program to stylise your images. Comes as a standalone filter program which can also be launched from Lightroom, Photoshop or Aperture.
