The night I shot this I was in Surfers Paradise doing a shoot for a client and I was up on the top floor of the Q1 building, which I recall is about 70 stories high. I spent about 3-4 hours up there taking HDR images of the sunset and then long exposure HDR’s during blue hour of the city skyline. I went through and edited a few of the images and got them to decide on their favourite which we printed to a size of 150cm on this amazing professional grade rag paper. The paper was suited to works with a high dynamic range and the resultant work was stunning. They since had it framed with a a glass front to protect the image.
I had a quick bite to eat after that shoot though and studied the Surfers Paradise maps and I noticed that it is full of tiny rivers and waterways, like the branches of a tree. I explored for a few more hours until I found this location which was down a back street, through a park, along the back of some houses and down a walkway, haha, easy to find !
– On1 Perfect Effects An amazing Filter program to stylise the image. a standalone Filter program which can also be launched from Lightroom, Photoshop or Aperture
What struck me though when going through my images in Adobe Lightroom 5 just now was the movement of the clouds over the moon and combine this with the palm trees and mirrored reflection on the waters surface and I realised I had a pretty complete image. With a few tweaks using Photomatix Pro & Perfect Effects and of course adjustments in Adobe Photoshop CS6 I came up with this. But to be honest the image didn’t need many changes as it was one of those ones that was already there and kind of edited itself, if you know what I mean.
