I truly love doing photography and being out taking images… I am currently holding an exhibition of my work at ten thousand paces gallery in Bowral, NSW Australia, and the process has made me think so much about what kind of images people enjoy. I displayed 14 sized framed A2 giclee prints along with many more 12×16″ + 8×10″ mounted giclee prints. It’s always interesting to get feedback about which images people really enjoy and it surprises me sometimes which are the most popular.

This image was taken on Sydney’s Northern beaches yesterday and the sunset was beautiful but as we are on the east coast and the sun sets in the west you can’t get that brilliant moment when the sun goes down over the ocean. You need to be up bright and early for that! Instead, at sunset you can work a lot with compositions and with mood. In this image I was very focused on the way these diagonal lines broke up the frame and how they lead the eye out to sea.

Shooting and software:

In terms of shooting I used my Sony A7R on a tripod and extended the exposure by using a 10 stop 165mm firecrest ND filters on a Nikon 14-24mm lens. I am able to manipulate the shutter speed to whatever I like by adjusting my ISO and aperture.

This is a single exposure and I used

OnOne Photosuite the complete collection of photo editing software from OnOne.

-NIK Collection

-and obviously Photoshop and Lightroom
