I emerged from the hiking trail on Sydney’s northern beaches to discover this view of coastline… To get here you can hike from around the headland coming from behind the camera like I did or you can come along the beach and up through the cliffs on the right of frame. I arrived just before sunset and I was able to capture the warm light bouncing off the clouds and down onto this gorgeous coastal landscape.
People were enjoying the beach in many different ways.. like a girl was doing yoga right on the cliff just around the path to my right.. guys were down on the rocky platforms fishing.. a large group of lifesavers were training up and down the stretch of sand.. people were surfing, swimming and just enjoying the water in general. BUT I decided I wanted to share this landscape without the distraction of people in it. So I put on my 10 stop Neutral density filter on to my lens and took a rather long exposure of the composition, 20 seconds to be exact. I then took the image into On1 Perfect Effects to do all the stylisation on the image. I’m happy with how I was able to get such a range of tones within the scene here just using the one RAW file.
